Well, new Fiskateer Lydia (#7030 to be precise) did a most excellent blog post about it. AND she captured her sister Cynthia’s darling robot perfectly. Please leave her a comment and show her the power of the Fiskateers: http://understandblue.blogspot.com/2010/03/fiskateers-are-coming.html (and hey, my hair doesn’t look 1/2 bad considering it has NO idea what humidity is usually!).

If you’re inspired by Lydia’s post and our jewelry making night, start sneaking Legos from your kids’ collections- I think I’ll do a mini tutorial on National Scrapbooking Day (or, if you know your kids will spot a missing Lego out of a collection of millions like my son would, buy your own special Legos). In fact, I bought the Legos we used on Tuesday with the Jo-Jos (Wendy Jo and Kelly Jo) when we were in Orlando this summer for Fiskars 360th birthday celebration- we challenged each other to make Fiskateer Lego jewelry… I’m part way done with a bracelet… I think I’ll “reveal” it on National Scrapbooking Day. Then Kelly Jo and Wendy Jo will have to live up to their end of the challenge too =)

One little note: In the video I said that this technique will work with every Fiskars border punch, and it will. But not every punch design looks good going ’round the corner. For example, when You go ’round the corner with the effervescence border punch, it looks like an alien head. Not good, unless that’s the look You are going for.

So what do You think, easy enough?

I still have photos and stories to share from my Houston trip but while my Austin trip is still fresh in my mind, I thought I would share a few photos of our “Austin is Weird” crafty night. I loved showing everyone how to use one of my favorite Fiskars tools- the drill. I had an inspiration and stopped at Target on the way to Memory Depot and bought 2 inexpensive bamboo cutting boards to use with the drill- what a difference! I had been using an old telephone book but it was so heavy and bulky. The cutting boards were perfect for protecting the table tops while we drilled. For demonstration purposes, I brought piles of orange and green Legos- which were turned into darling charms thanks to the polyester chain (love that!), crimp beads and jump rings provided by Beadalon.

Like any crafting event, watching the projects develop was so cool to witness (check out Jen’s embroidered can lids- she drilled each hole individually and then used colored threads to create letters- so awesome and clever). You can see Jennifer Perkins of the Naughty Secretary fame helping her hold the lids in place too- I should have taken a photo of all the fun “found items” Jennifer brought to make jewelry! I never get tired of soaking up the inspiration of fellow crafters and these women took it to a whole new level- or maybe it was just the “Austin is Weird” vibe that I love so much.

And even better is meeting people you’ve only known from online. Trenise and her adorable daughter Caydence joined us. It was the first time I’ve ever heard a mini-Fiskateer outlast her mama Fiskateer- Caydence wanted to shut the party down and we were more than happy to have her. Carrie drove all the way from San Antonio to join us and stepped out of her usual crafting box to make a darling Fiskateer/Lego necklace. Lydia had hot-out-of-oven locally made Tiff’s cookies delivered for us to share. Lydia’s sister Cynthia (a.k.a. the Drill Expert) made the BEST Lego robot necklace that I KNOW I took a photo of but can’t find it on my camera (I hope she posts in the Fiskateer gallery soon so you can see it)!!! I also enjoyed meeting the multi-talented Vickie Howell . Everyone at the crafty night was an amazing, inspirational crafter and I wish I could craft with them all the time- I’ve GOT to get back to Austin soon. I even had a mini-high school reunion with a high school friend I haven’t seen in 20 years who now lives in Austin and took time out to come craft with us! How fun is that?

I want to encourage all of you- reach out to crafters in your area using our the regional area of the message board, Facebook and Twitter. Put on your own event- if you have room at your craft table and a bowl of popcorn, you can throw a crafting party and meet people who share your passion for crafting. There’s nothing better than an evening with like-minded new friends. (And thank you to LaRee at Memory Depot for providing our crop space!)

I have had a heart to heart with many of you sharing about my weight and my desire to lose a lot of it. After some surgeries, changes and inguries . . . it’s not as easy to drop it. Well, while my intentions in the past were good but my efforts didn’t always follow. I gave into temptation and it was difficult especially when I got busy. I’m all about being transparent and you are my fiskateer family so I’m sharing openly. I’ve loved the way you’ve also shared from your heart. Well I say . . . try, try again. I am on my way again. I’ve been taking some proper steps towards making that happen and I’m about 10 pounds lighter. I hope this is just the beginning.

But I’ve also been learning. Any positive and healthy distractions from sweets is welcomed. On Monday night I went to Sue’s house (a friend). I was joined by another friend from work and my daughter. Sue is retired but stays busy. Sue was sweet enough to take time out to teach us to knit. We brought dinner. It was a blast! Abigail already knew how to knit but needed some guidance. Her knitting stitches were about perfect. I’m working on mine but by golly I think I got the hang of it pretty much. She had a blast and didn’t want to leave. So I am practicing and it’s coming along well. Of course I shared with Sue a little Fiskars love. She sure shared a lot of love with us. I’m so excited about this new venture.

So for any of you on the same weight loss journey as I . . . I am thinking of you. Please don’t give up. Let’s keep at it a little at a time.

How many things can you juggle at one time? I’m not talking about tennis balls, bowling pins or chainsaws here. I’m talking about how many things can you juggle while participating in an on-line crop?

Last night I hosted a Fisk-a-Wood Movie Awards Party Crop right here on the Fiskateer website. Participants were juggling multiple tasks… replying to topics on the message board, chatting in the Fiskateer chatroom, watching the Oscars on television AND completing a scrapbook page for my progressive layout challenge. Wow! I’m out of breath just trying to get that typed out on this post.

The majority of the night was spent in the Fiskateer chatroom where we discussed everything from the red carpet fashion to our personal predictions for the winner of the Oscars. The discussion didn’t move very fast because a lot of us were busy trying to watch the telecast and keep up with the conversation in the chatroom at the same time. But every time there is a chat in the Fiskateer chatroom, the topic of food always comes up. So, with that in mind I decided to create a challenge that was all about our favorite movie snacks. And with this challenge comes some random winners and they are Fiskateers: #1943, #1764, #2572, #5019 and #6470.

In addition to the winners above, one lucky random participant has won a NEW Fiskars Portable Glue Gun. That goes to the creator of this layout…

Movie Munchies by Mary #5509!

Do you see your Fiskateer# listed or layout pictured here in this post as a winner? If so, congratulations and be sure to email your name, address and phone number to wendyjo@fiskateers.com to claim your prizes.

I kicked off my Oscar weekend by going to the movies on Saturday. To my surprise, my local theaters concession stand no longer carries one my favorite movie munchies… Goobers! Heartbreaking, isn’t it? Its little things like these little dilemmas in my life that I’m crazy enough to take the time to scrap. (You’ll notice in the close-up shot that I decided to use the Fiskars Framed in Love Border and Corner Punch.) Here’s my layout…

Oh, and don’t forget about my other movie challenge that is due this coming weekend on Sunday, March 14th. You can read all about it here.

I am a brave soul for sharing this. Keep in mind that both Ben and I are under the weather so we didn’t get much sleep last night. That will explain the showered yet haggard look.

A few items of note as You watch the video:

The squeaky door has been silenced.

The window seat cushion is still unfinished.

Now is the perfect time to complete an ornament from 2005.

Thank You so much for the organizational tips and suggestions. I still need to really organize my papers and ribbon, but at least I can sit at my desk and scrap!

I did find a few goodies to give away (don’t worry, I saved the 2005 ornament for myself) so I made 3 boxes with random stuff that will be shipped to Teresa #6857, Sue #2266 and Marla #3291. Congrats, Ladies! Please email your address AND phone number to me at kellyjo@fiskateers.com.

I’ll be posting the 1 hour challenge winners later today. You can enter anytime before I draw the winner, and I think I’ll bring back the comment winner, too, so check out the entries and leave some Fisk-a-Love!
