Sunflowers

make me smile.
We went to the grocery store the other day. Owen and I, that is. We had to get out of the house - the cold is getting to us all. Anyway, while we were there, Owen insisted that we had to get flowers. He picked out three bunches - some pom poms, red austameria (I know I spelled that wrong), and sunflowers… what is really funny is that this is the kind of bouquet I make in the summer all the time. Not usually in February, however. It did make me smile and feel warm in this cold, bitterly cold, weather.
The best part, however, was when Owen explained that one bunch was for me, one was for dad, and one was for the boys. Then, he proceeded to tell me that they were for our wedding - he wants to go to daddy and mommy’s wedding. He giggles, smiles, and looks away all shy… We went to a lot of weddings last year and my guess is that he feels left out for not being at ours, even though it was a few years before he was even a blip on the radar. It was just the sweetest little thought.
Now, I have the happiest flowers on the planet, the flowers that we actually had at our wedding, and happy summer thoughts thanks to my little man.
Here’s a little sunshine for all of you…

February 20th, 2008 at 10:28 amStephenie, you’ll have to visit northern Colorado sometime in late summer–there are several sunflower fields. I am blessed to be able to drive past some of them on my commute every day. They always make me smile, because they just look so happy.

February 22nd, 2008 at 3:45 pmWow!!!! that little guy knows what to say - he is going to be a little heart breaker someday with all that loveyness (keep it as long as he does it). Maybe the next time you have a significant anniversay have a small wedding
re-do and include them in the wedding (one little one could walk you down the isle while the other is the Best Man) My husband and I did this with my step-sons since they werent allowed to attend our 1st real wedding. It was a blast and I love looking back at the pictures when they were small peeking out of the top of the limo
and all dressed up with little boutineers. Thanks for sharing this sweetness it brought back special memeories for me.
